| SAMETI to develop 29 villages as model agriculture villages | | Zargar for missionary spirit for transferring agriculture research to ground level | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER Srinagar, AUGUST 17 :
The Minister of Agriculture & Cooperatives, Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar has urged for missionary sprit to ensure transfer of modern agriculture technology to the farmers at their door steps through a strong extension service network. He said transfer of technology and its application at the ground level was imperative for economic emancipation and development of the society especially the farming community. Speaking at the first meeting of the executive council of State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) here today, the Minister called for diversification in agriculture to achieve self-sufficiency in food grain production. He impressed upon the agriculture university and development departments to pool their resources to come up to the urges and expectations of the farming community. The Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department S. S. Sahini, Secretary Agriculture, Mr. K.B. Jandial, Director Extension, Sheri-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science & Technology (SKUST-K) Dr. G.M.Wani, Directors of Horticulture, Command Area Development Departments, M. D. Agro Industries, heads of the various Krishi Vigyan Kendras,(KVKs) representatives of NGOs and some progressive farmers were also present at the meeting. SAMETI is an autonomous centrally sponsored institution aimed at reforming public sector extension to make it more farm friendly and organizing need based training programmes of middle level and grass root level agriculture extension functionaries and improvement of their technical and management skills. The Minister said that constitution of SAMETI is the first organized and well conceived step to bring agriculture scientists, extension experts and NGOs under one umbrella to help farmers in increasing productivity. He stressed for Strategic Research and Extension Plan (SREP) for each district. |
