| GCW Gandhi Nagar blanks Kathua College | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 24 In a one-sided contest, Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar blanked Government Degree College Kathua 15-0 in the opening match of the annual inter-college handball tournament being organized by Department of Physical Education, University of Jammu, here. It was Neeru Chauhan who infact guided GCW Gandhi Nagar to a big win with her highest score of seven goals. Katia Bhan and Rita Devi contributed four and two goals respectively. In the second match of the day, PG Departments outplayed GCW Udhampur 11-2 to enter the second round of semi-finals. Mehak Khajuria was top scorer with six goals followed by Neha Choudhary and Nilza Angno, who contributed two each. From Udhampur College both the goals were scored by Palvi Magotra. Today’s matches were officiated by Sudesh Kumar (SAI Handball coach), Venney Sharma (State Sports Council Handball coach), Kapil Sagotra and Gurcharan Singh. The three-day long tournament was declared open by the Director Physical Education, Prof Lokesh Verma. Earlier, Prof Verma was introduced to the participating teams. Earlier, Assistant Director Physical Education, Dr Sonam Angchuk welcomed the distinguished guests including team managers. Prominent among those present included Dr Brij Biloria, incharge MPEd and BPEd, Romesh Sharma, incharge PTI campus, Ramesh Magotra, table tennis coach, PD Singh and Raj Kumar. Tomorrow’s fixture: GGM Science College (morning) to take on GCW Parade while GCW Gandhi shall meet PG Departments in the second match.
