Srinagar based girl’s name surfaces in car lifting case
Court asks Punjab Police to produce owners of the cars

Following Punjab police making an appeal before a court here to allow them to take the car lifter along with the stolen vehicles to Punjab, the court is reported to have turned down the appeal saying that the police team from Punjab should first produce actual owners of the vehicles before it.
Meanwhile, as interrogation of the car lifter, Rajnish was on in a local police station by joint teams of Jammu and Kashmir police and Punjab police, it was made known that one Murtaza Baba a Srinagar based car lifter has purchased many stolen cars from him and last month also he was delivered a brand new car in the outskirts of the city.
Baba also used to deliver them many vehicles stolen from the different parts of the state and Rajnish and his associates would sell them in Delhi and Punjab on very low rates. Sources informed that suring interrogation, a Srinagar based girl’s name also figured for her involvement in the vehicle lifting case. Rajnish told police that he also used to deliver the stolen cars to the girl who was an associate of Baba and was also involved in many vehicle lifting cases.
Sources added Baba was earlier also figured in a case under Gandhi Nagar police station in Jammu in another vehicle lifting case when the police had busted a gang in the area few moths back.
Sources added Punjab police is likely to take Rajnish to Srinagar for identification after which more recoveries are likely.
It was also learnt during interrogation that every year the gangs used to exchange cars with each other and also would sell the spare parts of the vehicles after lifting them from different states.
Sources said Baba is a notorious car lifter active in the state for last many years and is reported to have stolen a large number of cars from different parts of the state and outside. Sources added that Punjab police will also look for Baba in the valley.
