| SHGs for conservation of Dal Lake proposed | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar|Sep 25 In order to give boost to the Dal conservation activities, Jammu and Kashmir government is taking up a mass awareness campaign on conservation measures for saving the Dal lake. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Mehboob Iqbal said that Self Help Groups comprising of students, youths, local populace of the Dal area and supported by the government and voluntary organization would be formed so that a concerted effort is made for generating awareness and taking up the cleanliness and conservation of the lake. Addressing a high level meeting of NGOs and government official, Divisional Commissioner said that areas would be allotted amongst the self help groups, so that an integrated approach is made toward achieving the goal of having a clean Dal. A control room would be established by VC LAWDA to monitor the progress and provide all logistic support to the voluntary effort of the self help groups. The progress would be monitored on regular basis and based upon the progress the best self help group would be awarded by trophies, said Mehboob Iqbal. A joint team headed by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir will visit the Dal area from Nageen Lake on Friday to assess the measures to be taken for conservation of the Dal. The meeting chaired by Mehboob Iqbal Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir was attended by Mir Naseem Ahmed Vice Chairman LAWDA Farooq Ahmed Shah Director Tourism, Syed Haq Nawaz Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Mohammed Rafi Director Education, Khursheed Ahmed Director Physical Education Kashmir University, Youth Services and Sports, Deputy Secretary Higher Education, Houseboat owners association, NGOs Green Peace, and Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation.
