| Those maligned Hari Singh then, were now part of celebrations: Chaman | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 25 Expressing his pleasure over the large scale observance of 112th Birthday of the Late Maharaja Hari Singh at Jammu and elsewhere, the former Union Minister and a senior leader of the BJP, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that it was significant that even the elements who were responsible for maligning this great nationalist, have now begun to join the celebrations. It is a different matter that whether it was hypocrisy on their part or some other compulsions of the circumstances, he added. Prof. Gupta recalled that Maharaja Hari Singh was not only a big advocate for independence of India but also had signed the Instrument of Accession to Indian Union by virtue of which this State of Jammu and Kashmir became legally an integral part India. But it was highly deplorable that the Congress leadership to appease Sheikh Mohd Abdullah and his party National Conference had put this great Maharaja in exile at Mumbai where he breathed his last away from his people and the state. He also recalled that after the Maharaja was put to exile, in 1950, the then Prime Minister and Congress leader Jawahar Lal Nehru visited this capital city of Jammu. A Rajput leader Late Nanak Singh Jamwal and others had put up banners at Purani Mandi and other places demanding of the Maharaja back to his state but the Prime Minister had become so furious that at his public meeting at Parade Ground repeatedly putting his foot at the dais had observed that “Mein Kehta Huin Hari Singh Nahin Aega, Naein Aaega.” Sheikh Mohd Abdullah seated at the dais was trigger happy. When there was great reaction to the utterances of Nehru, the leaders of the Congress who then operated through the National Conference, had been explaining that Nehru was meant that there would be return of no dynastic rule. Gupta lashed upon the Congress and National Conference asking them to explain to the countrymen that whether now they are not themselves perpetrating dynastic politics and the senior leaders of these parties should tell the people that whether they are not getting pigmies to the persons of the two dynasties of the Nehru and Sheikh. The BJP leader observed that hijacked by the dynasty, the Congress is proving dangerous not only for democracy within their party but can be a threat to the democratic values in the country also. Prof. Gupta said that Maharaja Hari Singh was put in exile because he was opposed to cease-fire when the Indian troops were fast advancing pushing out the Paki invaders from this state and also opposed to any separate status for Jammu and Kashmir as the Maharaja had fully supported the Praja Parishad led movement against separate constitution, separate flag and separate head viz Sadar-e-Riyasat. Prof. Gupta said that real tribute to the Maharaja would be that his cherished outlook of nationalism should be followed and all barriers between this state and rest of the country are demolished.
