In stepped up anti-insurgency operations across the state, five militants, including a self-styled district commander of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, and a Special Police Officer were killed in separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir, where two hideouts were busted since last night, police said.
HuM commander Abdul Razaq, a resident of Pakistan, was killed in an encounter with security forces at Khayar village in Bandipora district last night, a police spokesman said.
Razaq, who was functioning under the aliases of Danish, Manzar and Hamidullah, was one of the most wanted militants in North Kashmir. An AK assault rifle, two magazines, 28 rounds and a wireless set were recovered from him.
Two Lashker-e-Toiba militants, identified as Hanzullah of Pakistan and his local associate Ghazi Ahmad Mir of Pulwama, were killed in an encounter with police at Yamrach village in Kulgam district of South Kashmir.
Two more militants were killed in another encounter at Morah Bela in Bufliaz area of Poonch district late last night.
SPO Shah Hussain was also killed in the encounter.
The spokesman said an encounter broke out between militants and security forces at Dhana Dhar in Kastigarh area of Doda district this evening but further details are awaited.
Meanwhile, security forces busted two militant hideouts, one each at Masari forest in Karnah sector of Kupwara district and Barmi Dhar in Mahore area of Reasi district last night.
An arms cache including two pistols, an IED, a hand grenade, two detonators, two pistol magazines with 60 rounds and an AK magazine with 167 rounds were seized from the hideouts, the spokesman said.
