| Concern over rising corruption expressed | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 26 A meeting of the executive committee of the J&K confederation of voluntary, social and charitable organization was held here today under the chairmanship of V.P Sharma president to discuss corruption, pollution and environment degradation. Members felt that in spite of crusade against corruption started by the chief minister, menace of corruption in rising day after day. The print and the electronic media are replete with scams and scandals involving crores and crores. Since corruption percolates from top, the CM must concentrate on high profile politicians and bureaucrats. B.L. Parimo referred to the misuse of govt.vehicles by politicians and bureaucrats and collapse of railway tunnels on Udhampur-Qazigund Railway line. He also referred to the acute shortage of drinking water in Jammu city, which is primarily due to callous attitude and mismanagement. Giasuddin Shahmiri, Vice President Kashmir lamented that important matters have been brought to the notice of C.M, but without any effect. K.C Bhagat from Jagrat Samaj Akhnoor referred to the proposed fresh survey of BPL and implementation of NREGA, ANTODIYA and ANPURNA schemes about which the common man is totally unaware. J.L Gupta referred the killing of national bird PEACOCK by medical assistant near Nowshera, in spite of strict ban on hunting. In spite of complaint and protest of some local NGO’s namely refuge welfare society, Sunderbani and universal peace protection force Nowshera, no action has been taken against the culprit. H.N Tikoo Gen Secretary referred to the cutting of 3 lacs trees on NHIA in the process of four laning, which has contributed to environment degradation. The setting up of 13 pesticide manufacturing units at Samba and more than 100 cement manufacturing units in the state without effluent treatment plants also figured during discussion. Raj Sehgal and Nirmal Padha also contributed in the discussion.
