| 177 field regiment celebrates 40th raising day | | | EARLY TIME S REPORTER JAMMU | JULY 1
The regiment was raised on July 1967 at Neelasandra Lines near Bangalore by Lt Col VNK Nair. Since its raising day the Regiment has served in varied types of terrains and conditions. From Jammu & Kashmir in the North to the North Eastern states of the country. The regiment has distinguished itself in safeguarding the interests of the country from external and internal threats while operating at High altitude, Desert or Counter insurgency affected areas. The regiment since its raising has participated in the Indo –Pak War of 1971 and did a commendable job for providing fire power, thus breaking the back of the enemy resulting in our victory. The regiment has also participated in Operation Rakshak 1 in the Punjab, Operation Rakshak II in Jammu & Kashmir and OPERATION RHINO in the state North East. Till date the regiment has earned one Veer Chakra, two Sena Medals, two Chief of Army Staff Commendation Cards and three Army Commanders Commendation Cards. Fun Fair, a Volley Ball Match, a Family Welfare meet, Visit to the unit Quarter Guard by the Commanding Officer, inauguration of a Multi Gymnasium, a Special Sainik Sammelan and Regional Barakhana were part of the day. Showing concern for the society, the regiment also carried out some socio welfare programmes which included donation of stationery, toiletry and sports item to the Bal Niketan orphanages, donation of toiletry and other essential to the Vridashram old age home and also donation of chairs and other offerings to the Peer Baba Shrine near airport. Some of the old officers of the unit took time off from their busy schedule to attend this momentous occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Col R K Kaushal, the Commanding Officer of the unit complemented all ranks of the unit for having braved all odds and having excelled in all fields to keep the regiment’s flag flying high. He said that this is not time to lie back on the past glories but to rededicate ourselves to achieves even higher laurels in future for the regiment.
