| Raghni scripts GCW Parade’s victory in handball finals | | | Early Tmes Reporter Jammu | Sep 26 Her killer instinct paid off. Raghni—a first year science student of Government College for Women (GCW) Parade single-handedly turned the tables against defending champions, Post Graduate Departments to dislodge the latter from being inter-college women’s handball champion. In nerve-wrecking finals played at the University grounds here this afternoon Parade college eves defeated Post Graduate Department by a wafer thin margin 7-6 to take home the pride. However, credit of Parade College win over defending champions PG Department goes to Raghni. The fighting spirit, extra-ordinary stamina and most importantly killer instinct of this young India camper and gold winner in the inter-state national handball tournament received thunderous applause from a strong gathering of students on the campus. As an aggressive striker, she kept on attacking the opponents’ goal scoring six of the total seven goals including the winning goal. On the other hand, she made brilliant saves while guarding the net as substitute goal-keeper. Raghni saved as many as seven penalties, facing yet another excellent player, Mehak of PG Departments. However, on ground, the PG girls played well but their poor show in converting the penalties into goals was major cause of their defeat. Mehak was the top scorer from PG Departments with three goals in her account. Today’s matches were officiated by Sudesh Kumar (SAI Handball coach), Viney Sharma (State Sports Council Handball coach), Anil Sagotra and Gurcharan Singh. Chief coach of the Indian women handball team, Vivek Khajuria also witnessed the match.
