Post Surgical Strike: Migrating border villagers resent Govt apathy, seek plots in safer areas | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 1: As an eerie silence prevailed in villages falling along the International Border (IB) during recent escalations of tensions along Indo Pak Border following surgical strike on terror launch pads in Pak occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Thursday, the border residents in bordering villages in Kathua and samba districts resent the Govt apathy towards their miseries as successive government have failed to allot 5-marlas plots to them in safer areas. Since Indo Pak border escalations have gone up, villagers in almost all areas along the International Border in Samba, Kathua and Jammu districts have been forced to leave their houses and cattle behind to take shelter in safer locations as directed by the district authorities. "We have to migrate whenever there is firing from across border by Pakistan and we had migrated again, some locals said, adding, "Centre and State Governments should allot us 5 marla plots in safer areas, as per the promise held out earlier, so that we can live in permanent peace. Most of the villagers complained that they couldn't cultivate their crops during most of the time last year due to frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan. "We can't sleep in the night with apprehensions that a shell fired by the Pakistani side might anytime land on our house and kill us. Our children suffer the most…Their education is hampered. They also become victims of psychological trauma," and other villagers said The border dwellers asserted that they too have the right to live a peaceful life. "This cat and mouse game has been going on for the past many decades and now it's time for India to settle the score once and for all and teach Pakistan a strong lesson," another border dweller. The residents here blamed successive State Governments of "abandoning them" as their demand for a small plot at a safer location has not been considered. People of the border villages Chak Faqira,SadohPangdour,Kangwala,Bainglar Kulliyaan and others in Samba district camping at various make shift camps alleged that the Government till date has failed to Providing 5 marla plot to the people of border areas. During polling time several leaders of the different political parties came to border villages and assured 5- Marla plots to border dwellers but once they got elected they did nothing turned in thin regard. Sewa Ram, Lamberdaar of village Kulliyaan recalled several despiter assurances the government till date has failed to provide 5 Marla plot to the people of border areas. Meanwhile Devinder Singh, a resident of Village Kungwala demanding for permanent solution, said that the border residents have fed up of such kind of situation i.e. frequent uprooting from their place. The plight of the border residents in Kathua district is not different from those of Samba district as following directions from DDC Kathua the authorities has asked people living under 10 km to International Border (IB) have shifted to safer areas. The border people once again have appealed government to fulfill its promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during election campaign for 5 Marlas plot in safe place to each family and bunkers in each houses hailing from border areas. Villagers assembled at village Bobiya and staged protest demonstration against Pakistan but enthusiastically hailed surgical strikes done by Indian Army on Thursday. Hailing surgical strikes by Indian Army in PoK, Ashok Sharma said," Government must take this action few days back to control on militant attacks and frequent cross border ceasefire firing." "Regular migration badly affects not only study but also village life, business, agriculture and live stocks so people seek permanent respite from all these sufferings." He appealed government to concede demand in regard to allotment of 5 marla plots to border people in safer place where they can move during war like situation. Sohan Lal, SDM Hiranagar informed that tehsil administration was ready for any action occurred in IB and added that District and tehsil administration has declared holidays to educational institutions for premeasured actions and established 22 camps with requisite facility in Hiranagar sector for people who would migrate if any tensed situation is occurred along International border. |
