| Terrorism, from PoK to Valley and now to Jammu: Chaman | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 27 Targeting the Congress-led coalitions, both in the state as also at the Centre, for their soft approach towards extremism and religious fanaticism, the former Union Minister and a senior leader of the BJP, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has observed the menace have all the way marched from Pakistan held Kashmir to the valley and now it were raising its ugly head even in Jammu areas including even the capital city of Jammu. In this regard, Prof. Gupta particularly referred to the anti-national slogans at a College hostel in Jammu as also creating of ugly scenes at Rajouri and Reasi in wake of the victory of the team India to bag the World Cup in the Cricket series and said that such like sad incidents earlier used to be confined to certain areas of Kashmir valley alone but it was quite significant the disease has spread to Jammu areas also. Addressing workers gathering at the holy town of Katra Vaishno Devi, the BJP leader alleged that the so-called Kashmir problem was the creation of Congress leadership which had no Kashmir policy right from painful communal partition of the country. He pointed out many uncalled for conditions were put forth before accepting the Instrument of Accession to Indian Union which was signed by Late Maharaja Hari Singh. Later on in 1948-49, when the Indian troops were fast advancing for liberating the Pak held areas, suddenly cease-fire was made and Article-370 was incorporated granting different status to Jammu and Kashmir because of communal considerations. Maharaja Hari Singh who wanted to see that the invaders from his entire state should be pushed back and there should be no separate constitution, State head viz Sadar-e-Riyasat, and separate flag for Jammu and Kashmir, he was put in exile at Mumbai where he died away from his people and the state. Prof. Gupta listed so many other instances in this regard and asserted that all the complex problems facing the people of this state as also the rest of the country, were the result of bunglings and follies of the Congress leadership. He pointed out that during the past years of Pak-sponsored militancy in this state over 70,000 cases of terrorist violence were registered. In this violence over 25,000 innocent civilians were massacred and butchered by the ultras. Lakhs were turned refugees within their own country. To curb the terror the BJP-led NDA government had enacted a law known as POTA. Under this law over 400 cases were registered and 216 persons were arrested on charges of various heinous crimes including that of massacres but the Congress-led UPA government scrapped this stringent law with the result in Jammu and Kashmir there was not a single person who could be awarded exemplary punishment for indulging in massacres and other crimes. On the contrary over 260 officers and jawans of the army, BSF and that of other belt forces have been awarded harsh punishment but for charges of violation of Human Rights. The BJP leader appealed to the people in general and the workers particularly to take note of the crimes committed by the Congress leadership and create a strong public opinion within this state as also in the rest of the country to stem the rot. The meeting was presided over by Shashi Kumar, the Mandal President. |
