| SI among 2 security personnel killed in point blank range attacks in Srinagar | | 3 militants among 4 killed elsewhere in JK | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER
Srinagar, August 17:
Militants fired upon a police Sub Inspector and three CRPF personnel from a point blank range at Lal Chowk, Dargah Hazratbal and Shalkadal here on Thirsday. The police sub Inspector and a CRPF personnel succumbed to their injuries, while as two other were critically injured. Meanwhile a shawl weaver was killed at Kunzer Tangmarg, while as three militants, one SPO and two troopers were killed in different encounters at Lidder Pahalgam, Machil Kupwara, Gool Udhampur and Doda. A civilian was also injured.
Reports reaching Srinagar indicate that militants fired upon a police Sub Inspector Mohd Jamal presently associated with P/S Zakura from a point blank range near Kashmir University main gate at Hazratbal at around 4.00 P.M . The sub Inspector received multiple injuries in his head and was killed on spot. In another similar incident, militants fired upon two security personnel of 131 BN CRPF identified as Head Constable K.N.Mishra and Constable Aklesh Kumar from a point blank range at Koker Bazar Lal Chowk at around 11 .00 A.m and both of them sustained injuries. It has been learnt the bullets got penetrated into their head and neck. They were shifted to SMHS hospital Srinagar immediately, but one of them Kadar Nath Sharma succumbed to injuries. In yet another similar incident , militants fired upon Constable Fayaz Ahmed Bhat bearing no:3162/S presently associated with P/S Shaheed Gunj at Shal Kadal Haba Kadal at around 12.00 noon. He was critically injured.
Claiming responsibility for the attacks, Jaish-e-Mohammad spokesman Abu Qadama told KNS that two CRPF personnel have been killed during the attack.
Meanwhile police recovered the body of a 22 year old youth Reyaz Ahmed Mir S/O Mohd Akbar R/O Gulab Dajan Kunzer, a shawl weaver by profession, from Khaipora Wuder Tangmarg. Police sources said that unidentified gun men had abducted the youth and threw his head chopped body in a nearby forest area.
The army has said that two troopers were killed during an encounter in Machil Sector where five intruders were killed on Wednesday last.
Mistaken as a militant, troopers of 3RR fired upon a civilians Noor Alam Khan S/O Mohd Ali at Lider Pahalgam in the wee hours, when he was on his way to mosque for offering morning prayers. He sustained injuries. However army spokesman said that Noor Alam Khan was injured as a result of heavy exchange of fire between the militants and troopers. The militants killed one SPO identified as Gyan Chand during an attack on a police post at Sajan Doda, while as three unidentified militants were killed during an encounter between the militants and the 58 RR personnel at Dachan Gool Udhampur, while as one trooper sustained injuries.
