| IIIM celebrates raising day | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | September 27 Indian Institute of Integrative Medicines (IIIM), Jammu celebrated CSIR’s 65th Foundation Day here. On this day in 1942, this autonomous body was constituted by resolution of the then central legislative assembly. Dr. Niya Anand, Ex-Director, CDRI, Lucknow was the chief guest, who delivered the foundation day lecture entitled “Prospectus of research on traditional systems of medicine. The function started with the melodious invocation by the students of IIIM School and was followed by the welcome address by Dr. S.C. Taneja, Chairman, Bio-organic Chemistry Division. While introducing Dr. Natiya Anand to the audience Dr. Taneja informed that the chief guest started his career as student of Delhi University and did his PH.D. from University Department of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. Dr. Cambridge Natiya Anand did yet another Ph. D. from Cambridge University in 1950. He was also a Rock Feller Foundation Fellow at Howard Medical School where he worked on the mode of action of streptomycin. He became the Director of Central Drug Research Institute from 1974 to 1984 where he built an active school of medicinal chemistry research, which contributed significantly in drug design discovery and development. He is research resulted in the discovery of a number of new drugs. He has published about 4000 papers authored 2 books and about 90 students have been awarded Ph. D. degrees under his supervision. He has a\headed various national & inte4rnational committees and is consultant to WHO, UNDO and UNCTAD and is recipient of many prestigious national and international awards. Dr. Taneja while commenting on the achievement of IIM informed that today, IIM was working with prestigious companies of the world such as Procter & Gamble, Colgate Palmolive, Nicholas, Piramal, Lupin Laboratories, Tropical Botqanics, Malaysia, Zandu Pharmaceuticals, Kerla Ayurveda. He informed the IIM, Jammu in the last one-year has published more than 50 scientific publications with an average impact factor 1.8 and has earned an external cash flow of nearly Rs. 5 crores. Prizes were also awarded to the winner of science quiz and essay competition owhile as memento’s presented to the employees who superannuated during the past one year and those who completed 25 years of service in CSIR. Yashir Singh Bedi, Scientist, Indian Institute of integrative medicine, Jammu presented the formal vote of thanks.
