| Camp on iodine disorder held | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 27 One day women awareness camp on “Iodine Deficiency Disorder Control Programme” was organized by the directorate of field publicity in coordination with project officer, ICDS at Akhnoor. Nearly 100 rural women/Anganwari workers including adolescent girls of border villages of Akhnoor block participated in this interactive programme and expressed their views. Santosh from Jourrian, Kumari Manju Bala from Mandi Walla, Kiran from Gurah Brahmna, Anita from Phagal, Santosh from Bandral and Kamla Devi from Bamberwan village advocated strongly for strict enforcement laws on ban of non-iodized salt in rural areas. Various disorders owing to less intake of iodine were highlighted which lead to physical and mental retardation in human beings in generals and babies in particular. Raman Bhagat, Medical Officer while delivering lecture on the subject, explained the depth, various disorders of iodine deficiency among children that hamper their over all growth. Rachna Sharma, Project Officer ICDS who presided over the camp underlined the importance of iodine in our daily diet. The participants of seminars were given away of prizes in shape of gifts on the occasion. |
