| PDP plans to get Baig or Mir inducted in Cabinet | | Move to replace Qazi ‘sabotaged’ by Azad | | Early Times Reporter Jammu| Sep 28 The PDP is planning to get either Ghulam Hassan Mir or Muzaffar Hussain Baig inducted in the cabinet in place of Qazi Mohd.Afzal who the party believes was provoked to resign on losing forest portfolio and was sabotaged by none other than Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad. Knowledgeable circles in the corridors of power said that the PDP leadership had thought that Qazi Afzal’s resignation would be accepted by the Chief Minister and the vacancy caused by his resignation could pave way for either Muzaffar Hussain Baig or Ghulam Hassan Mir to get inducted in the cabinet. Chief Minister, even after refusing to oblige the Qazi by conceding his demand for the restoration of forest portfolio, refused to accept his resignation thereby preventing any cabinet post from falling vacant. The contours of the PDP plan became visible when the PDP leadership neither persuaded Qazi Mohd.Afzal to resume his duties even without getting back the forest portfolio nor did it discuss the issue with the Chief Minister so that an amicable solution was hammered out. These circles said that initially Qazi Afzal wanted the Chief Minister to clear the Forest Department and the Corporation of the mess by handling the forest portfolio but later the Minister was prompted by party leadership to hit back by sending a letter to the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister did not reply the Qazi’s letter and stopped commenting on the episode indicating that Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad felt no need to be apologetic over the issue. The PDP leadership has seen through the game and has almost decided to keep off the controversy by not mounting pressure on the Chief Minister to restore the forest portfolio to the Qazi. This way Qazi stands dumped and the PDP plan having lost its ground.
