Jammu|Sep 28:-After realizing that there was no suitable congress leader who could replace Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir the AICC leadership has given a free hand to Mr Azad in dealing with the political and organizational matters. At one stage the Congress high command had toyed with the idea of sending Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz,Union Minister for water resources, for replacing Mr Azad as Chief Minister but the idea was dropped as the field reports said that majority of Congress leaders were in favour of Mr Azad to continue as Chief Minister.
Informed sources said that after recent discussions the Chief Minister had with Dr Manmohan Singh,Prime Minister, and AICC Chief,Ms Sonia Gandhi,Mr Azad was assured full cooperation to him whenever he decided to reorganize the PCC in the state or carry out reshuffle in the council of ministers by inducting some new faces in place of deadwood.
Initially the Congress high command was averse to Mr Azad’s plan of reorganizing the Pradesh Congress committee by replacing Peerzada Mohd.Syed, PCC Chief by some dynamic Congress leader. His plea was that Peerzada had not been able to devote full time to the organizational matters as he was busy with the affairs of the Departments that fall in his portfolio as Minister of Education and Auqaf. The Chief Minister had favoured one man one post policy. He could not carry out his plan because the Congress high command had opposed it.
Now Mr Azad has been given a free hand in reorganizing the PCC and carry out any reshuffle in the council of ministers.Informed sources said that Mr Azad does not want to take any hasty step which could prove counter productive for him and the Congress party. He is weighing all options.Indications are that he may carry out some changes in the PCC setup within next one month and may venture minor reshuffle in the council of ministers
