Div Com finalizes Navratra festival arrangements

KATRA| SEPTEMBER 28 -To finalize the arrangements for smooth conduct of Navratra festival commencing from 12th October 2007, The Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sudhanshu Pandey who is also chairman Navratra Festival Celebration Committee Katra convened a meeting of committee members and local officers here, today.
Various subjects enlisted in the agenda including sanitation, shoba yatras, cultural process, All India devotional song competition, cultural programme by the school children, cultural programme by Song and Drama Division, illumination, welcome gates, poney/pitho competition and security arrangements were discussed.
Addressing the meeting, the Chairman Navratra festival committee sought full cooperation from the committee members and urged upon the people to participate in large numbers to make the Navratra festival, a grand success.
In was decided in the meeting that the NAC Katra will start cleanliness drive in the town immediately while the electricity department will replace the poles on the Banganga road which have damaged due to widening of the road. It was said taht per their requirement 18 poles will be supplied.
Pandey said that the main aim of the festival is to promote pilgrim tourism on a large scale and also to boost and exhibit the culture of the state. The festival has also been recognized in the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. A large number of devotees from all over the country and even abroad visit this holy shrine during the Navratras days.
Shoba Yatras, All India devotional Song Competition, culture programmes by school children and Song and Drama Division, GOI. Discourse on Ramayan and Bhagwat Geeta will be held during the festival.
The Divisional Commissioner informed that to develop the festival logo based on Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine National tenders shall be flouted and reputed designers from the country will be asked to prepare logo which would not only attract people from the country but abroad as well. Infact, the logo should be so attractive and widely recognized that it can be used frequently by the reputed companies and organizations as a source of not only income but for gaining popularity and act as symbol of its identity for wider publicity.
It was decided in the meeting that 50 percent funds will be given in advance so that all the necessary arrangements are completed before start of festival.
He also expressed the desire to paint all the commercial and private establishments single colour as a identity of Katra township not only on the eve of Navratras days, otherwise also, on the pattern of Pink city, Jaipur.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB Puneet Kumar, District Development Commissioner Reasi Sanjeev Verma, Director Tourism Ajay Khajuria, General Manager JKTDC and other members of the Navratra festival celebration committee
