| Dir Agri asks specialists to educate farming community | | | Early Times Reporter JAMMU| SEP 28 - Director Agriculture, Jammu s Vinod Bala Sharma called upon the specialists and extension workers of the department to educate the farming community regarding identification, surveillance and management of diseases and insect pests below critical level in the crops. s Bala was addressing to the functionaries of the department during farmers awareness camp at Sunderbani yesterday wherein over 200 farmers and officers of the department were present. She asked the enforcement wing to strictly monitor the quality of pesticides in the manufacturing units and distribution chain and ensure that only quality products reach the farmers field. She advised for close coordination between the farmers, researchers and development officers for the purpose. She said that the farmers should apply the treated seed only in the field to prevent appearance of any seed or soil born pathogens in the crop at subsequent stage in the field. She called upon the officers and experts of the department to work with devotion and dedication to usher in an era of food security in the region. The Joint Director of Agriculture (inputs) V.K.Bhakhri advised the farmers to be careful about the safe and effective use of pesticides. He impressed upon them to get their soils tested and use fertilizers in a balanced dose to to develop capability of crop to resist attack of insect pests and diseases. Dy Director Agriculture (central) spoke on integrated pest management concept and identification of spurious pesticides . Arun Maknotra, SMS described some serious pests and vectors such as white fly. Yellow vein mosaic virus etc and their control measures. Others who spoke on the occasion included Joint Director of Agriculture Extension, Plant Protection Officer, Agriculture Consultant Crop Chemicals India Ltd and GM Crop Chemical India Ltd.
