| NC activists protest against Roshni scheme | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER R.S.Pura | Sep 28 The activists of National Conference led by Taranjeet Singh Tony today held a protest demonstration against the Roshni Act and burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad at Gandhi Park here today. Tony expressed its displeasure over the manner in which the government has been conferring the ownership rights to the people of state. He regretted that the people who were given ownership rights over the land held by them are not empowered to sell, raise, its residential house or use it for commercial purposes. He said what is the use of giving ownership rights when the people can not do any thing with the land. “It seems the government has joked with the poor people”. He further said that the rate fixed under the Roshni Act for residential and commercial purposes are very high which the common man, especially the people living below poverty line, can’t afford to pay. He said the government harassing the poor people who are in occupation of properties for more than five decades in the name of Roshni scheme and demanded constitution of a Committee to look into cases of different categories. He said those living below poverty line should be given ownership rights free of cost.
