| Lucky Nikhil makes it a double title win | | | Early Times Reporter JAMMU | Sept 28 After making a career best performance of double title victory in the junior group, upcoming cueist Nikhil Arora has aimed at the senior snooker title. Gaining extra confidence after a black ball final frame win in the deciding seventh frame in the junior snooker final this afternoon against equally good and defending Ishuk Chowdhary, Nikhil has decided to create upsets in the senior group this time. Although he could not even reach the quarterfinals of senior snooker last year in the same competitions, yet he wants to pose as a serious threat for another title contender, Kuldeep Sharma. “My main hurdle is Kuldeep Sharma, who will be in front of me most probably in the quarterfinals and if am able to overcome this hurdle, I will be aiming at the title,” said Nikhil soon after his double title victory. Earlier, in today’s junior snooker final, it was not a cake walk for Nikhil. Unable to make a good start after losing the first frame to Ishuk, Nikhil made a great come back winning the second (48-9) and then third set (71-38) thereby making it a 2-1 lead. However, Ishuk was not in a mood to give up easily and he then took away the fourth frame bringing the score to an equal position 2-2 amidst charged atmosphere in the Billiards hall. The battle for the top honours continued till the seventh frame which was decided by a black ball (68-61) after score was tied at 61-61. The match score: 27-53, 48-9, 71-38, 32-88, 60-19, 41-55, 68-61. In fact, it was luck that favoured Nikhil who potted the black on a fluke thus denying Ishuk to regain his title. On a last trip in the junior group (under-21 year), it was a happy ending for Nikhil. Meanwhile, general secretary of the J&K Billiards and Snooker Association, Sheetal Gandotra said that the senior snooker competitions shall start from tomorrow onwards.
