Corporator attempts self immolation during JMC meet

General House meeting of the Jammu Municipality corporation was disrupted today for some time when a NC corporator enacted a self immolation bid accusing local Congress MLA of interfering in his domain and expressed concern over the slow pace of developmental activity in his ward.
The NC corporator from Ward no 4, Ashok Dogra attempted self immolation as he was dejected with the poor response of the local congress MLA and decided to take the extreme step to highlight his plight.
The main hall in the town hall area witnessed commotion soon after Dogra after dousing himself in kerosene oil attempted self immolation. Swift action by deputy Mayor Dharamveer Jamwal along with few other corporators saved the situation and whisked away Ashok from inside the hall in the town hall area.
Before attempting self immolation the NC corporator leveled serious allegations charging local MLA in the area of interfering in his work and not giving him free hand to help masses in the area. “I am dejected with the poor response of the state government machinery towards my ward .People question me why all the developmental activity has come to a stand still, I do not have satisfactory replies as I am aware of the fact that no new work was being carried out in my ward no 4, Dogra said. He also raised questions over the level of interference by the local Cong MLA in his area claiming that he always hijack agenda of the corporators and claim he is toiling hard to improve the situation of lanes, by lanes and drainage, water supply system in the area. Large number of other corporators also raised similar issues and urged Mayor Narinder Singh Jamwal to apprise the Chief Minister nature of response/ treatment they have been receiving from the local MLA’s in their respective areas."We need to work in tandem to improve the infrastructure facilities but we are not receiving enough support from MLA’s for variety of reasons", NC Corporator Rashida Begum said accusing local Cong MLA of keeping them in the dark and not taking them in to confidence.
