| 5-member women boxing team named for nationals | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 29 Including four women pugilists from J&K Police, the Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Boxing Association has finalized a five-member team for the forthcoming 8th Senior National women boxing championship. To be held at Rudarpur in Uttranchal from October 8 to October 12, the Association has high hopes from the women boxers in this championship. Presenting coached at the Police boxing ring, Gulshan ground by Satyakam Sharma (police boxing coach), the team is putting in lot of hard work to improve their performance. Unable to participate last year, the J&K team had won a bronze medal in the 6th edition of the national championship. The team will be leaving for the venue on October 6 under the banner of J&K Amateur Boxing Association. Except for Simmi Sharma of J&K Police, the same team had represented J&K in the all India invitational boxing championship at Nainital in May this year and returned with three medals, including a gold, silver and bronze. However, the gold winner Simmi is not part of the present state team the reason being she represents the All India Police team in the senior national championship. The team: Parveen Manhas (46 kg), Madhu Rani (54 kg), Kulzam Bi (57 kg), Asha Jamwal (63 kg) and Surbhi Salathia (66 kg). |
