| Drug peddler sent to judicial custody after remand | | Reveal more names active in Jammu region | | ET Follow-Up Jammu | Sep 29 Three drug peddlers, who were arrested with large quantity of charas in Warehouse area, were today sent to judicial custody after the police remand. During interrogation they revealed the names of some more persons involved in the trade in Jammu region. According to sources during interrogation he told police that some more persons were also associated with them who financially help in the drug trafficking and also gave details of some of the hide outs Sources said he also told police that a big gang of drug peddlers active in the Jammu city had the patronage of some political leaders and the government employees. The arrested drug peddler told police that he used to smuggle drugs and other things from Srinagar and other parts of India for selling the same in the temple city here and other parts of the country on high rates. Sources said after getting vital clues, police have launched a hunt to nab them and more arrests are likely anytime. Sources said the investigating officer have also shared the information with some other police stations and police is likely to crackdown the drug peddlers in the city. If sources are to be believed the arrested drug peddler, during further questioning, while in police remand, has told the investigating team that some government employees also deliver the consignment in the city after receiving it from Srinagar and some shopkeepers openly sell the drugs in the city. It may be recalled that on September 19 last, police arrested one person namely Khalil Ahmed son of Mohd Rashid resident of Gambir Mungla, Rajouri and recovered ‘charas’ from his possession when he was on way to deliver the consignment and took him to police station for further interrogation. Sources said during interrogation he told police that two UP based smugglers gave him the consignment asking him to drop it in the area. On his disclosure, the police team raided a hideout and arrested two more persons namely Noor Hussain son of Noor Mohd and Raj Kumar alias Raju, both residents of Utter Pradesh and also took them to police station. Sources said police recovered six kilograms of charas from their possession and during interrogation they told police that they were active in the city from last many years and visit Jammu with a large quantity of charas every month. They also told police that they delivered some consignments of charas to local smugglers yesterday and today they were on way to deliver last consignment when police arrested them. When contacted a senior police officer said police launched a hunt against the drug peddlers to make the Jammu city clean from drug menace. |
