The Government has placed under suspension the district social welfare officer of Pulwama for allegedly siphoning off lakhs of rupees meant for militancy affected victims and poor people. "I have placed the district social welfare officer Abdul Hafiz Shah under suspension pending an inquiry into his role in the alleged misappropriation of funds meant to be distributed among the distressed people," Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Mehraj Ahmad Kakroo said. Shah was suspended after it was established that cheques, issued under National Family Benefit Scheme and Militancy Victims Rehabilitation Scheme, had not reached the concerned people. Additional Deputy Commissioner has been appointed as the inquiry officer who will submit his report within two months, Kakroo said.
