| Badgam mosque under siege | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep 29 In a grim reminder of the decade of 1990s, the security forces today laid a siege around a mosque in Badgam district following reports that two militants are hiding inside. Acting on a tip off about the presence of militants, security forces and police launched a search operation in Tujan village in Budgam district of Central Kashmir this afternoon, the sources said. Finding themselves trapped, the militants took shelter in a mosque, they said.The security forces exercised restraint and did not opened fire on the ultras holed up in the mosque, Defence spokesman Lt Col A K Mathur said. The mosque was sealed from outside and the ultras have been asked to surrender, he said, adding the militants refused to do so."We are trying to persuade the ultras to come out of the mosque and surrender. Village elders have been sent into the place of worship to persuade the ultras to surrender," he said. Meanwhile, security forces have recovered arms and ammunition, including two rocket launchers, from Ramban and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir , official sources said here on Saturday. Security forces, during search operation in Dooligam forest area of Banihal tehsil in Ramban district, busted a militant hideout on Friday, they said, adding that the militants fled before their arrival.The recoveries from the hideout included two rocket launchers, they said.In another incident, security forces during search operation recovered 115 rounds of AK ammunition and one hand grenade from open fields in Nathi area of Doda district on Saturday, the sources said. |
