| Coalition fits in NC shoes, extensions take center stage | | | NIRBHAY JAMMUAL Jammu|Sep 29 They nailed National Conference government on many accounts while promising a clean and transparent administration and at the end of the day ended up doing the same which previous regime was accused of. This is how the coalition government has given the clean and transparent administration. One of the first few major decisions which the coalition government had taken after coming to powers was that they terminated the services of all officers given extension by the National Conference government. Then came the announcement that government is strictly against the extension culture and all its employees will have to demit offices upon their due retirement. The PDP led regime under Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was more particular about ending the extension culture. However, the first extension was accorded to a Director of Agriculture by the cabinet meeting headed by Mufti himself. When this move was sought to be questioned, the government clarified that the Director was a subject matter expert and in view of the ensuing crop season it was decided to continue him. Two years back when doctors of the Government Medical College, Jammu organized a farewell party for their outgoing Principal Vijay Gupta, the event had to be turned into a welcome party midway. Government order reached the Medical College that, Dr Vijay Gupta has been accorded extension. Mohammad Iqbal Gani, the Secretary of Legislative Assembly had to retire earlier last year. When the session resumed and every body was expecting a new Secretary in the chair, every one was taken by surprise on seeing Ganai intact in his office. He had been accorded extension by one year. The chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education, Prof Nisar Ahmed Gani is also on extension. Some his juniors who had to take the top position upon his due retirement have already retired. Few months back, the Chief Engineer of Power Development Department (M&RE) attained the age of superannuation. Few days ahead of his due retirement, his colleagues were thinking of organizing a farewell party that the government issued orders for extension in his service by another one year. Recently, the government has accorded extension in the service Aziz Ahmed Wani, the Managing Director of Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation –one of the profit making undertaking. Interestingly, still from top to the bottom, every one in the government claims that the present coalition regime has given the most honest and transparent administration. |
