| Azad's 'Man Friday' says, Congress to run alone | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sept 29 Amidst a lull prevailing ahead of storm, the Congress had today "unofficially" announced that it will go ahead alone in the next assembly elections. A handout issued by the state's Information Department and explicitly marked as "unofficial" quoted the Jammu and Kashmir Congress's senior state Vice President Abdul Gani Vakil as saying that his party will not have any electoral alliance with any entity for the next assembly elections. He also indirectly blamed the coalition partner Peoples Democratic Party of making attempts to destabilize the Azad government. "JKPCC Senior Vice President and MLC Abdul Gani Vakil Saturday said that Congress will fight 2008 Assembly Election in the state alone. As far now no decision has been taken to forge alliance with any political party", informed the handout. Vakil, it may be mentioned here, is Man Friday of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and this statement is believed to have been issued in full concurrence of the Chief Minister. The handout further quoted Vakil as saying that the Congress would face electorate on its own performance and people-friendly policies, kick-started in the state by the Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad with the huge financial assistance and logistic support by the Congress-led UPA Government. "We have bad experience of coalition mechanism where major coalition partner tried its best to dislodge Congress-led government in the state on one pretext or the other. "We fulfilled coalition dharma when the other party was at the helm of affairs and supported the then Chief Minister wholeheartedly, but unfortunately Congress Chief Minister did not receive the similar support instead many hurdles were created to destabilize his programmes aimed at Khushal Jammu and Kashmir", Vakil lamented. He said, though, Azad's visionary decisions, innovative and people-friendly policies and above all commitment to curb corruption and catapult development received applause at the national and international level yet, the coalition partner tried to make the ground slippery for smooth waking, just for political reasons. "In fact popularity of Azad for his high performance and public service frustrated many. Azad's record-breaking winning in bye-election securing highest number of votes so far recorded ever in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, even though he did not campaigned for, made them jealous and they started politicking" Vakil added.
Vakil enumerated long list of historic steps of Azad during last about two years adding that "achievements are so brilliant that Azad has made high impression in every area and in every heart". |
