| Peace fast returning to Kashmir; Bollywood still maintaining safe distance | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 30 Despite showering all its love on this paradise on earth in reel life, Bollywood is still maintaining a safe distance from the picturesque valley- not willing to take any risks in real life. On the other hand, half hearted efforts made by the state tourism department to rope in bollywood film makers to make a fresh beginning and start shooting in Kashmir valley have failed to yield desirable results in the last one year despite perceptible change in the overall peace atmosphere in Kashmir. " Normal life in Kashmir is just normal and there is no fear as residents here are trying to match steps with the rest of the world but Bollywood continue to look backwards and stay away from this paradise on earth", a tourism officer said. “Our valley has become subject matter of majority of hit films but very few among them were practically shot here and depicted real Kashmir, an upcoming Kashmir theatre artist said expressing his desire to work in the film industry. Meanwhile, officials in the tourism department said despite showcasing Kashmir as an ideal destination for film industry no big banner has come forward to Kashmir for shooting in the last one year .He said after the Kargil war, few film makers shot pictures in Kashmir and Ladakh but beyond that no regular film maker has landed here in Kashmir with its crew members to shoot exotic locales and pictursque valley for their favourite dance numbers. Tourism officials said, situation in Kashmir is fast improving and it is the right time to invest in Kashmir valley. But judging by the response of the film makers we also feel bad about one thing and often ask ourselves- what is holding bollywood filmmakers, spending crores of rupees outside India hunting for similar locales? " We want to invite them to Kashmir and showcase our valley through their medium spreading message that normalcy is fast returning to Kashmir, a senior tourism authority said. A regular movie buff Rajesh Sharma said, an attempt has been made by few bold film makers and they have also come forward to shoot their films but by and large majority of film makers are still keeping a safe distance from our paradise on earth. He also suggested that tourism department should forward a proposal to the state government to launch an advertisement campaign involving big industry stars to woo bollywood filmmakers. He said, beside hosting big golf tournaments the department is successfully hosting national and international winter sports events yet it has failed to convince the bollywood to revisit Kashmir and make a new beginning by shooting another 'Kashmir ki kali' in Kashmir. |
