| ‘Kathua Library sans reading material’ | | Readers annoyed over administration’s callous attitude | | Early Times Reporter Kathua | Sep 30 Despite good infrastructural facilities, coupled with trained staff, Kathua Library, in the heart of city, is deprived of the good reading material resulting in less attendance of visitors Although the Library Department has provided computers to the library but are of little use as the same have not been installed so far. The books and journals kept on display in the library of obsolete providing little information to the readers about the changing scenario on the globe and modernization trends. Non availability of these facilities have left the readers high and dry who curse the concerned for its lackadaisical attitude. Readers visiting the Library are comparatively less as were in the recent years. Persons usually come to library for time pass. Retired professor Vijay Sharma talking to this reporter said there is lack of competitive books in the library and the aspiring students interested in seeking admission professional institutions do often visit the library to study the relevant material but regrettably they feel dejected as no such material is available in the library forcing them to purchase the same from the local market at higher costs. Anjali Verma, Suresh Kumari, Trishant and Madhu Jasrotia student leaders said that that no latest magazines and general knowledge books are available in the library. They further stated that today is the day of modernization and computer is the part of everybody’s life. In every field computer education in compulsory but regretted that despite availability of computers the same have not been installed for the reasons best known to the concerned authorities. Senior teacher Sushma Jasrotia said the post of Chief Librarian is vacant since last more than five years and no effort has been made to fill up this vacancy. Whatever staff is available in the library they have been very cooperative but are helpless to provide any assistance to the visitors in absence of the reading material. She further added that District Development Board has to provide funds for renovation and development of this library and hoped that the district administration would rise to the occasion and help to sort out the problems and arrange sufficient funds for purchase of latest reading material suiting to the needs and requirements of the students in general and general public in particular. |
