Dr Shenaz Ganai, daughter of late former Minister Ghulam Ahmed Ganai, a probable National Conference candidate from Mandi assembly constituency where bye election is being held before end of the current year, due to the death of the sitting MLA G M Jan, was accorded rousing reception on her arrival at Poonch last night.
Dr. Shenaz immediately after reaching the town straightway drove to the ancestral graveyard along with large number of people to offer ‘fateh’ as the mausoleum of her father late G A Ganai, former minister and veteran NC leader.
Dr. Shenaz was taken to Dak Bungalow Poonch in a motorcade where large number of people from Poonch and Mandi accorded her rousing reception and raised pro-Shehnaz slogans.
It may be recalled that Dr. Shenaz has recently resigned from the government service to join the active politics. She is likely to be fielded by the NC from the Poonch seat which has recently fallen vacant due to the death of the sitting MLA. The NC, has already hinted that she would be the party’s candidate from the Poonch and had secretly told her to resign from the government service and to mobile public opinion for her candidature as NC nominee.
Addressing the people, including the women, who had come from far off places to receive her, Dr Shenaz thanked them for their goodwill gesture and reiterated that she would follow the path of her late father who was the leader of the masses and pledged to work for the poor and the down trodden people of the society.
Being a neglected area, Poonch and Mandi need special attention, she said and assured that she would fight for the just demands of the people of the area. He impressed upon the government to announce a special economic package for this border district so that new opportunities are afforded to the people making them earn their livelihood with dignity. She said that she was moved by the encouraging response shown by the people of the area who had organized the program to welcome her decision to join the active politics.
Earlier, welcoming the decision of Dr. Shanaz to join active politics, several speakers said that women of this hill locked area are mostly backward and feel proud that the daughter of this soil has taken a bold and courageous decision by joining active politics to highlight the growing people’s problems.
