The work on the 1.5 km long road stretch connecting the famous Mahamaya temple in the outskirts of city of temples with Sidhra bye-pass was kick-started by the Minister for Roads and Buildings Gulchain Singh Charak here today. The work on this prestigious link road, linking the famous and most revered ‘Mata’ temple, was earlier taken up by the former Governor Jagmohan some two decades back but was abandoned by the successive governments in the state during all these years.
Following mounting pressure from the people thronging the temple daily, especially during the Navratra and other festival days, Charak felt the importance of this vital link road and ordered its completion before the ensuing Navratras. He himself, supervised the reconstruction work on the road which was taken up in his presence here today.
It may be recalled that non- existence of the linkage from National Highway to the temple shrine was posing great problems for the people visiting the temple to take blessings of the ‘Goddess’ Mahamaya.
The Minister said R&B department will also take up the construction work of Mahamaya- Bahu Fort temple link road project shortly. The tourism department had earlier undertaken the task of laying the said road but the work could not start due to certain constraints. Charak affirmed that clearance will be sought from the forest authorities so that work on the project can be started at the earliest in joint consultation with Tourism department.
Interacting with the local population, the Minister was apprised of the problem of shortage of power and drinking water in the area. He assured to look into the genuine problems of the people for early redressal and stated that providing the basic amenities of road connectivity, health care, regular power supply, quality education are the main priorities of the government. He asked the engineers to complete the different ongoing development works within the targeted time period by judiciously utilizing the allocated funds and showing no compromise in quality of works.
Taking to the Early Times, Charak said that today is a very auspicious day that the construction work of the road has been started after a long time. He said due to the divine powers of the Mahamaya Mata, the development work would be taken to its logical end soon as large number of people visit the shrine during the Navratras.
Charak further disclosed that the work on 1.5 Km long road which commenced today will connect the temple premises with the National Highway and the project would cost around Rs 8.25 lakhs and would be completed before the ensuing Navratra festival.
Corporator, Bansi Lal Gupta, who was also present on the occasion, stressed the need for development of the temple area on war footing as thousands of people visit the temple to take blessing of the Goddess. He thanked the R&B Minister for taking initiative in this direction for starting the development process around the temple, which was pending since last several years as a result of which the people visiting the temple were facing many difficulties.
Later, a deputation led by Sarpanch of the area Dharam Singh Charak with strong contingent of 20 people from Sarrora village, 2 km from Bari- Brahamana met the Minister at Engineers Institute, Jammu and expressed their willingness to donate 31 kanals of common land in their village for construction of a hospital. Assuring the deputation to start the construction work on the state- of- art private hospital having ultra modern health care facilities in collaboration with leading private companies in the said land at the earliest, the Minister informed that an NGO of villagers will be formed to oversee the hospital construction work. The hospital will provide free health facility to the inhabitants of the locality who donated their prime location land situated on national highway.
On the occasion, Minister had invited both the District Development Commissioners from Jammu and Samba Hirdesh Kumar Singh and B.S Jamwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Hemant Kumar Sharma and Zargar, Chief Engineer R&B M. M. Sharma, SE PWD and other senior officers from the administration for the effective and meaningful implementation of the project.
