Jammu | Sep 30 Army troops engaged in anti-militancy operations in Jammu and Kashmir, will now be equipped with modern devices, including bullet proof jackets and direction finder radio sets.
The army has floated global tenders for the procurement of nearly 50 thousand multi-role and light-weight bullet proof jackets, location indicator hand held radio sets and mobile point to multi-point intergated voice and data communication systems, official sources said.
The tenders have been floated for purchase by General Officer Commanding-in-chief and notification issued by secretary purchase committee, Col. D.K. Rastogi, they said, adding the purchases would be done in a phased manner. The multi-role jackets to cover vital organs like heart, liver spleen, stomach and intestines, they said.
According to Army Commander of Northern Command Lt Gen H S Panag, nearly 75,000 army troops were actively involved in the counter insurgency operations in the state. |
