| ‘Kud Dance’ goes international | | | Early Times Reporter Reasi | Oct 1 The Kud Dance of Reasi has been selected for an International Cultural event being held in Ahamdabad (Gujarat). This was disclosed by Mr. Balwant Thakur, former Secretary of the Cultural Academy who was in town in connection with the selection of the Kud performers. ‘Navshakti Gurjari’- an International cultural event is being organized by Gujarat Industries Navratri Festival Society, Government of Gujarat in which rarest and unique performing traditions of the world are being featured. Giving details about Kud dance performance, Balwant Thakur said that a twelve member best of the dancers team has been selected for this prestigious event which will leave Jammu on 2nd of October for Ahamdabad. ‘Kud’ is a unique dance tradition of Dogras which is performed to please the local deities. This selection of the Kud team has been possible only due to the excellence achieved by the people of Reasi Hills in their performance and J&K Govt. has no role in sponsoring this group to this International event Despite the total neglect and absence of the Government patronage, the people of Reasi hills has preserved this tradition as their sacred belonging since ages. Reasi Kud has been the major attraction of various significant National cultural events. Late Hari Saran Thakur Nambardar of Bakkal first led the Reasi Kud Dance to Delhi in the Republic day celebrations and brought this rarest tradition to the National limelight. He has been highly instrumental in the promotion and preservation of this art form which is now being recognized as the cultural identity of Dogras. Village Bakal is considered to be a living museum of the performing arts and many rarest traditions like ‘Bhakh’ ‘Geetru’ ‘Shingh’ ‘Masade’ could be sill found being practiced there. Unfortunately a region which has given a unique identity to the Dogras has been the victim sheer neglect of the successive Governments. The selection of Reasi Kud dance for an International event is viewed as the biggest achievement of Reasi people and the artists are being complimented for bringing laurels to this newely created District. |
