PUC calls for liberalized Industrial Policy

The Committee on Public Undertakings (PUC) of Legislative Assembly has directed the Industries & Commerce Department to further streamline the functioning to boost the industrial activities in the state.
The PUC which met here today under the Chairmanship of MLA Ch, Gharu Ram and reviewed the functioning of Industries and Commerce Department and also discussed the CAG’s Report for the year.
The committee stressed for maintaining transparency in the allotment of industrial plots so that the genuine peopleare able to establish their units. The department should identify more places for industrial sector and explore possibilities to liberalize the industrial policy in the state.
The committee sought various plots at Samba Industrial Estate and Lassipora in Kashmir. The Committee issued instructions to commissioner/Secretaries Industries and Commerce to hold an inquiry in the allotment of land in favour of M/S Dewan Modern Breweries at Samba and submit a detailed report to the committee before the next meeting. Similarly, a status report on Lassipora Industrial Estate would also be submitted before the Committee.
The Committee asked the Commissioner/Secretary to ensure maximum employment of local manpower in the industries which are operating in the state. The departments should take necessary steps to encourage the industrialists of other states, the committee maintained.
Commissioner/Secretary Industries and Commerce Mr. L.D. Jha briefed the committee about the steps taken for boosting the industry sector in the state.He said that with the earnest efforts of the government more and more industrialists are coming from other states to establish their units in our state. The government has liberalized the industrial policy and very attractive incentives have been announced. For the last couple of years, the industrial sector has picked up considerably, for this the SIDCO which is nodal office for providing infrastructural and other support in establishing the industries is playing pivotal role, Jha added.

Akhoon, Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Syed Bashir Ahmed, Mohammad Rashid Qureshi, Mr. Arminder Singh, Kafil-ur-Rehman, Accountant General J&K Ghazala Meenai, Director Accounts and Treasuries M. I. Khanday, Managing Director J&K, SIDCO . Irfan Yaseen, Deputy Secretary Assembly M. R. Singh.
