| Tributes paid to Gandhi | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 1 In connection with Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, University of Jammu organized an Inter –Collegiate/Departmental symposium on the topic “The Relevance of the Teachings of Gandhiji in the present context”. Prof. NR Sharma, chairman, campus cultural committee presided over the function. About 32 students from various teaching departments of the University, local colleges, and colleges of Jammu participated in the symposium. Participants while expressing their views on the topic said that Gandhi was never more relevant than now and more we try to under stand his philosophy more we would come to know its deep significance in the present context. Syed Sherish Asgar from ASCOMS was adjudged first while Uzma Hamal from the PG Department of Botany , university of Jammu and Sajad Moh-ud-Din Sheikh from KC Law College , Jammu secured second and third position. The competition was judged by the eminent educationist Jagdish Chander, Dr. Poonam Dhawan, Director Centre for continuing Education and Dr. Anurag Gangal, director, Gandhian centre for peace and Conflict studies, University of Jammu. Others who presented on the occasion were Dhian Singh Bhau , assosciate Dean, welfare Department, members of campus cultural committee , students bcultural council and students fro the teaching departments of the University . Proceedings were conducted by Amita Malhotra while Mukti Talwar acted as the time keeper while the Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik presented the vote of thanks. In another inter college school department sketch making competition on the topic Mahatma Gandhi-An Apostle of Peace and Non- Violence function was organized by the National service scheme University Jammu. The competition was inaugurated by Prof. PS Pathania, Dean Student welfare, University of Jammu. Dr. Jasbir Singh Programme coordinator, NSS, university of Jammu and appealed to them to embible the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi in their life . Sahil Ori, MAM College , Sachin Kumar The Law school University of Jammu and Gagandeep Sharma from GGM Science college bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. |
