Kathua Blue wins opening tie
Satish Sharma memorial U-19 cricket tourney

Kathua Blue Cricket Club won the opening match beating Tiny Tots School XI by a big margin of 105 runs in the inaugural match of the Satish Sharma memorial under-19 cricket tournament at Parade ground, here today.
Batting first after winning the toss, Kathua Blue set a target of 248 runs losing all their wickets in 37.5 overs of the 40 overs match. In reply, Tiny Tots XI could not chase the total and the whole side bowled out for 143 runs in 13.3 overs
Sandeep Singh was top scorer from Kathua Blue with 50 ball 58 runs studded with five hits to the fence while Anil Kohli contributed 47 (off 39 balls) runs including five fours. Puneet Nischil, Anshuman and Abhinav Kaw added 29, 26 and 24 runs respectively. From Tiny Tots XI, skipper Gurdev Singh took four wickets for 50 runs. Abhay Sharma claimed two wickets. Sajad, Moin and Riaz Ali shared one each.
Later chasing a target of over six runs per over, Tiny Tots XI made a poor start losing the opener, Sameer on duck. However, Gurdev Singh played captain’s innings but could not get the support from middle order. He made 20 runs studded with four boundaries. Moin also played well but could not stay on the wicket for long. His 30 runs came in just 28 balls with the help of five hits to the fence. Vijay and Ankush contributed 17 and 15 runs respectively. From Kathua Blue, Paras Sharma remained the most successful bowler with four for 40 while Abhinav Kaw took two. Kanwar Sathe, Vishwajeet and Anshuman claimed a piece each.
Sandeep was later adjudged man of the match for his 58 runs contribution to the winners Kathua Blue score.
In all, 20 teams have come forward to take part in this knock-out limited overs tournament.
Earlier, the tournament was declared open by the chief guest, Inspector General of Police, Dr S P Vaid. Lalit Indu Mohanty (DIG), Parminder Singh (SSP Jammu) and SD Singh were guests of honour.
