| Kashmir First: Paswan promises steel, fertilizer unit in Valley | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 1 "Kashmir first" is perhaps the mindset of all at the helm of affairs as the visiting Union Minister for Steel and Fertilizers Ram Vilas Paswan promises a steel and fertilizer unit in the Valley. The demand was made before Paswan by senior Peoples Democratic Party leader and Agriculture Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar who hosted an Iftaar party in honour of the visiting Union Minister. Paswan was quick enough to agree to the demand without going into formalities of feasibility whether a steel and fertilizer plant can do well anywhere in Jammu or in Kashmir Valley. Paswan was in Kashmir on a private visit to access the scope for his party –the Lok Jan Shakti Party. He also said that two buffer stocks plants would be set up in Srinagar and Jammu to check the black marketing of fertilizers in the state. "Jammu and Kashmir being an agriculture state, the buffer stock plants would definitely help our farmers to make fertilizers available all time in the state. Usually when the demand of the fertilizers goes on increasing, the black marketing also starts. These plants would definitely prevent the black marketing," said Paswan, adding that better quality fertilizers would be provided to the farmers at the subsidized rates. The union minister expressed his concern over the growing unemployment in the state. "We will soon set up a steel plant in the state, which can provide employment to the local youths. I have already ordered for the survey of the steel plant and within couple of months, the plant would be established," he said. Paswan expressed his dismay over non implementation of "Sachar committee" report by the united progressive alliance (UPA) at the centre, which the prime minister had also promised in December this year. "The committee has revealed some astonishing facts about the problems being facing by the Muslims in the country. The committee has also recommended reservation for the Muslims in public and private sector enterprises. Jammu and Kashmir being a Muslim majority state, the recommendations of the committee would definitely help the muslim youth here in securing jobs in the central sponsored departments," he said. The minister also stressed upon the implementations of the recommendations of Ranga Nathan committee. "The recommendations of the Ranga Nathan committee should also be debated in the parliament, so that the problems being facing by the minority committees can be properly debated and addressed," he said. The chemical, fertilizer and steel minister demanded that the "Krishnan Ayog" report should made public, which was formulated after the Mumbai riots so that the conspirators would be exposed and punished. |
