| On his return the Mufti will try to resolve problem of dissensions in PDP | | | Early Times Reporter

On his return to Srinagar from his recent US visit Mufti Mohd.Sayeed will spend time with senior PDP leaders for resolving the problem of dissensions within the organization the undercurrents have been reported to the party patron.
Party sources said that number of senior PDP leaders were disenchanted with the functioning of the party leadership and feelers have been sent to them by the Congress on joining the organization in order to strengthen the hands of Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad.The sources said that since the Congress influence in majority of Assembly constituencies in the valley has squeezed its beneficiaries could be the PDP and the National Conference.It is in this context the Congress leadership in the state is trying to woo some influential PDP leaders including Muzaffar Hussain Beig and Ghulam Hassan Mir in order to win more seats from Kashmir that it had won in 2002 poll.
According to PDP sources,over a dozen senior party leaders were unhappy because the PDP leadership has not been consulting them while taking important decisions.They feel that the much needed collective leadership was missing in the organization and hardly a couple of leaders,including the party chief,were running the show.They refer to the recent development in which Qazi Mohd.Afzal resigned from the cabinet in protest against the decision of the Chief Minister on divesting the Qazi of forest portfolio.Whether the Qazi was to be told to relent or stick to his position the PDP leadership did not discuss this issue either in the working committee or in a meeting with senior party leaders.
The Qazi’s episode and the one connected with the recall of Muzaffar Hussain Beig from the cabinet in 2005 seem to have disheartened some of the founder members of the organization.Reports said that a couple of senior party leaders,including a member of the Legislative Council,would meet Mufti Sayeed and persuade him to calm down those party leaders who were having second thoughts on their continuation in the PDP.Will the Mufti be able to win over the loyalty and support of the disenchanted party associates may depend on the brief that he receives from his trusted people in the organization ? |
