| Postal stamp on Gandhiji released | | | New Delhi | Oct 2 The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today released a set of four postage stamps to commemorate the first international day of non-violence in memory of Mahatama Gandhi's creed of non-violence. As the United Nations celebrated Gandhiji's birthday as the international day of non-violence, Dr Singh said "Gandhiji's message of love and peace, of non-violence and satyagraha, of the equality of all people, of harmony between all religions, is a universal message." He said Gandhiji's message was more important today than ever before since nations across the world continue to grapple with the threat of conflict, violence and terrorism. This set of four stamps titled "Satyagraha: the Stirrings" is dedicated to the spirit of Satyagraha and how revolution based on the philosophy of non-violent resistance took place. |
