Early Times Report

Doda, Nov 6: Frequent traffic jams caused due to lack of proper road infrastructure has become a nuisance for the residents of different towns across the erstwhile Doda district. Locals say that although the number of vehicles has increased manifold in the district, roads across the district have not been upgraded for last ten years which has messed up traffic in the entire district. They accused the local administration and state government of not paying any heed to their woes despite repeated pleas. "Towns like Doda, Bhaderwah, Thathri, Prem Nager, Pranoo, Bhalla, Assar, Khellani Pull Doda which are always thronged by people seem much more crowded with vehicles than public", said a local student Manish. He said that to reach his college at Nagri Doda from Akramabad, they have to pass through busy and often jammed roads "as a number of commercial and private vehicles remain parked on the road which causes heavy jams in the town". Locals say the problem has taken an ugly turn in absence of proper parking spaces as well as dedicated stand for the passenger vehicles."Road side stands for different vehicles have been setup by the administration in connivance with the some Trader's to appease them. This causes unending traffic jams", said Imtiaz Zargar a shopkeeper. A local from Bhaderwah, Uttma Devi, alleged that the administration has resorted to pick and choose while widening of the main Bhaderwah market roads "which is also becoming the cause of tragic accidents at times". Locals as well as shoppers sought intervention of Divisional Commissioner and Inspector General of Traffic Police to make on-the-spot assessment of the Bhaderwah market to streamline the traffic and demanded that light vehicles should be directed to park vehicles at new bus stand where space is available.
