| JKCA slams door on Abid, Dhruv for joining ICL | | | SANJEEV SHARMA Jammu | Oct 2 Without going for a damage control exercise and giving a serious thought to the grievances of star cricketers of J&K, who joined hands with the ICL, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) wasted no time in slamming the door on seamer Abid Nabi Ahangar and all-rounder Dhruv Mahajan. As if not enough the JKCA with a jaundiced mind asked respective clubs of Abid and Dhruv to expel them with immediate effect. “The JKCA has banned Abid Nabi from primary membership of the JKCA and the club he belongs to has also expelled the cricketer,” said JKCA general secretary, Salim Khan, who till yesterday was not aware of any such happening. The Association has even cancelled the identity card issued to Abid Nabi for using the facilities at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium and other venues owned by the JKCA. “We have informed the BCCI with regard to the development and the action taken thereafter, so the doors are closed forever for these cricketers,” said the general secretary adding that the BCCI has taken a tough stand not to spare anybody whosoever joins the parallel league. When asked about other cricketers, who may join the ICL, Salim was quick in his reply, “same action will be initiated against cricketers going against the BCCI ruling.” “There is no room for compromise or persuasion because they (Abid and Dhruv) have already entered into a contract with ICL, so others should better speak to us if they have any grievance or problem with JKCA or BCCI,” said Khan in reply to a query. Busy with his professional job, the chairman of JKCA and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Mehboob Iqbal expressed ignorance about exit of Abid and Dhruv from JKCA. “I don’t have any knowledge about any state cricketer joining the ICL and if anybody has done so then action would be taken as per the BCCI norms,” he said. Meanwhile, when contacted Abid said, “It is the BCCI which has to take action, JKCA is no body. I want to ask one question to the JKCA that for what they have banned me, what facilities they are talking about? It hardly makes any difference to me, I have taken my decision and I have no regrets whatsoever.” Equally confident about his decision, Dhruv Mahajan said that JKCA’s uproar was anticipated. “It was quite expected but we are firm on our decision. However, I would like to add here that we still want to play for the state and pray to the Almighty that they (BCCI and ICL) get united and we may be able to represent J&K,” said Dhruv adding, “our job is to play cricket, doest not matter if it is BCCI or ICL.”
