Gandhi Jayanti celebrations in Jammu mark with confusion

Jammu | Oct 2
There was confusion worst confounded in the educational institutions in Jammu about holding of programs on Gandhi Jayanti, today and particularly whether as usual it was an off day in the schools and colleges as was the case in government offices and banks etc.
With no explicit instructions from the higher authorities that October 2 this year will not be holiday in schools and colleges and that students and teachers will attend their institutions, where live telecast of the program being held at SKICC Srinagar, to mark the conclusion of month long celebrations in schools and colleges, with distribution of prizes to the winners of elocution contests, will be screened before the students, most of the schools in Jammu remained off. The students as well as the teachers taking the day as a holiday did not show up in their institutions. However many teachers were called hurriedly, much after the opening time of schools, asking them to attend the schools as there was no holiday.
Strangely enough, while schools were required to screen on TV sets before the students the live telecast of the function being held at SKICC Srinagar, majority of the schools even in Jammu city have no television sets and hardly TV sets are provided in any school in the villages.
The confusion was further confounded by the PDD department who switched off power at 9 am, depriving even the people in houses to witness Gandhi Jayanti programs being organized. The power remained off for many hours together. This was deviation from no power cut on Gandhi Jayanti being effected in the previous years. Besides power cut for long hours, there was also no water supply through PHE pipelines in several areas in Jammu on the day, which was a mockery on Gandhi ji stress on cleanliness and sanitation. Was it an act of sabotage, to run down the Chief Minister, who has the personal stake in making Gandhi Jayanti this year a great and unprecedented success?
