| Chopra murder case has links in Rajasthan | | | ET Exclusive Jammu | Oct 2 Much infamous R B Chopra murder case seems to have taken a new turn with name of a criminal from Rajasthan coming to fore and a police team from here leaving for the desert state to lay a hand on the newly discovered link. To investigate links of the murder of Chopra, the cement tycoon who was killed a year ago, with this Rajasthan based criminal, a police team led by an officer of inspector rank has left for Rajasthan last evening. The officer who is leading the team is known for showing his capabilities in anti-gunda squad where he had remained posted for a large number of years, sources in police department said. According to the sources, it was for the first time that a police team has gone to another state with such a large number of weaponry and manpower. The step was taken after it was learnt through interrogation of the accused from Gunna in MP already in police custody in the case that yet another ‘gangster’ from Rajasthan was also involved with the case. The interrogation has also revealed that the newly discovered link was hiding somewhere in his home state only, sources added. It was also learnt that the ‘gangster’ from Rajasthan was already involved in various murder cases in different states and his gang was known by the name of ‘Supari Gang’. Sources further disclosed that the persons (from Gunna) already in custody of police here have given enough clues about the possible hideouts of the gangster to arrest whom the police team had left last evening. Further interrogations had revealed that the in-custody accused persons (from Gunna) were part of the gang to which this Rajasthan based ‘now wanted’ belong to and in all those states where they had executed the murders they had some influential persons to help them besides having links for couriering the money from those who book them for executing the jobs. When contacted, Inspector General of Police, Rajasthan RP Singh said he has not received any message from Jammu police that a team was visiting his state to arrest a criminal wanted by Jammu police in a murder. However, a senior police officer of Jammu police said that a team has already left for the desert state in search of a criminal and the department will only disclose details after the team returns with the result. Sources added that Jammu police has not yet informed the Rajasthan police about its plan and is likely to do so only after it takes hold of the gangster. Meanwhile, pertinent to mention that even as Director General of police here has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the Chopra murder case, many of the officers who were in the team have been transferred and none have been appointed in their places in the SIT. |
