Today locals of Barj area blocked the Mendhar-Poonch road at Mankote to protest against the accused Sarpanch and police which failed to lodge FIR despite the written complaint.

According to reports one Haji abdul Khaliq son of Gul Mohd Sarpanch of Barj Panchayat had engaged Mohd Azad son of Mohd Amin of Barj in Mankote as labourer under MGNREGA. The employer (the sarpanch) was expected to pay a sum of Rs 1400 to Mohd Azad, but he used to refuse it on one pretext or the other.
"Victim (Mohd Azad) and his family has run from pillar to post to get the payment released but nobody could dared to ask influential sarpanch to release dues to labourer, they added.

They said however timely intervention of neighbours rescued not only family members but also prevented his house from getting fully damaged by fire, reports added.
