The J&K Evacuee Property Department, which has been in the line of fire in Jammu due to its policy of harassing its tenants by issuing them ejection notices and periodical notices for entering into fresh rent deeds at enhanced rates, failing which their allotments will be cancelled, has now earned the wrath of people in Kashmir also. The department officials are reported to be blocking the proposed construction of the first cancer hospital in Srinagar by the Cancer Society of Kashmir, on a land belonging to the Custodian Evacuee Property Department. The objections, according to the society are being raised on flimsy grounds, seeking explanation of the hospital authorities as to why they had not established the hospital so far or have not taken any construction work on the site. The reply sent by the CSK, dated July 29 2006 to the notice served by the custodian, that before constructing the hospital building they have started construction of the fencing wall, has not been acknowledged by the custodian, who has issued the society a fresh notice to appear before him to explain the position.
Despite the administrative officer of the society appearing before the custodian, his office has served fresh notice on the hospital authority to explain why their officer did not appear before the department. The appearance of the representatives of the society even before the Custodian General, to explain their case has not helped, since the society is served with fresh notice asking to appear before the custodian and explain about the objections raised by them. According to the proposed hospital authorities, who claim to be working for a noble cause for providing quality treatment to cancer patients, within the state, sparing them huge expenditure involved in getting the treatment outside the state, the Evacuee Property authorities are resorting to obstructionist methods, with ulterior motive. |
