"Implication of Ethical Education Today" | | | Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh
Schooling today has become job-oriented people get education to get jobs, as mini mum qualifications are required for entertaining the world of employment. In the process, the emphasis has increasingly shifted to education of a material kind. Skills are learnt, professional knowledge is gained. Examinations are passed to prove academic standard. However, the spirit is ignored, the result is clear-better qualified personal materially speaking but morally bankrupt. Today we see an increasing rate of crime as money has become our chief value, No body bothers to teach a child what is wrong or right. No one teaches him or her the necessity of the human values of kindness, courage consideration and love. As such there is a much selfish action, all for the sake of material satisfaction. Thus, corruption increases, violence and destruction dominate, riots blow out of proportion small disagreements. In such a situation, it is absolutely clear that moral education is relevant, indeed, it is necessary. At the very primary school level, moral education should begin. Telling the truth and behaving honesty, showing consideration for others and kindness towards the weak are things that must be inculated at a very young age. Lessons should be chosen to highlight moral values in an entertaining manner. Teachers themselves should act according to high principles, so that children may learn from example. It is not possible for children to get moral education when teachers themselves act corruptly or dishonesty. At present if, there is so much of corruption, it is because moral education has been neglected. Moral education will not lead to a hundred percent honest society. However, even if sixty percent of the society becomes aware of the "Right" or "wrong" and has the courage of conviction the world would become a better place to live. |
