| Workshop on environment conservation concludes | | | Early Times Reporter Leh | Oct 4 A two day workshop on military/paramilitary force and environment conservation in Ladakh concluded here today. The workshop was held on the occasion of wildlife week celebrations by WWF-India and the department of wildlife protection in collaboration with Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) and Field Research Laboratory. The main objective of the workshop was to sensitize and educate the military and paramilitary force, deployed in Ladakh, about the environment and conservation issues of this high altitude trans Himalayan cold desert region. The workshop was inaugurated by the chief guest Tsering Dorje chairman and chief executive councilor of Ladakh autonomous hill development council, forest. Dr. M.K Bhandari deputy commissioner and chief executive officer, LAHDC Leh presided over the function. The first session of the workshop started with the address of Jigmet Takpa regional wildlife warden Ladakh followed by the presentation by eminent resource persons the welcome address was addressed by Dr. Shashi Bala Singh. The key note presentation was given by Dr. Asad Rehman director BNHS, followed by Chandan Jigmet, Roop Avtar Bhandari, Mohd. Adbas, Dr. Tsering Stopdan on various aspects of wildlife and environment conservation. The two days programme was punctuated with showing of many interesting and educative documentary films. The chief guest on the concluding function station commander 14 corps Brigadier Atul Mehra, impressed upon the entire defense personal to conserve wildlife and protect environment of the area where ever they are deployed. He also appreciated the efforts of the organizers to have given the opportunity to the army officers and paramilitary forces to attend this workshop. |
