| Annual Wrestling Tournament (Shinj) at Straiyan | | | Early Times Reporter R.S.Pura | Oct 4 The Annual Wrestling Tournament ( SHINJ) was held at Village Straiyan, in which a large number of wrestlers took part. The wrestlers from Haryana, Punjab, Delhi,, Jammu region and Army and Para military forces took part in the tournament. The Shinj is being organized by “Chibbal Biradri” every year on the day of “ Ninth-Shradh” in memory of Saint Peer- Monganath, who hailed from village Deav- Batala, Tehsil Bhimber( Now in Pak occupied Kashmir). Peer Monga Nath was considered to be symbol of secularism and people from all walks of life used to worship him. He was being loved by all communities of that area including Hindus and Muslims. R.S.Chib, MLC was the chief guest at the function.. Others present included MLA Ahhnoor, Sham Lal Sharma, MLA Suchet Garh Gharu Ram, District President BJP Samba, Sham Lal Choudary, NC leader Taranjeet Singh Tony, Suram Singh Chib and Balbinder Singh Chib. Speaking on the occasion the RS Chief said that Peer Monga Nath was a symbol of secularism and unity among all religions .He said Shinj is the biggest wrestling event, which takes place every year in Jammu region. He further said that this provides an excellent opportunity, to all those young wrestlers , who come from the rural areas and have potential for this game. He urged the need for promoting this game in the region on a large scale so that the budding wrestlers could get opportunity to learn more about the new techniques of the game. |
