10/4/2007 10:49:20 PM
New Delhi | Oct 4
A 500-page pictorial coffee-table monograph on Prime Ministers of India, containing articles from politicians, academicians and journalists, will hit bookshops across the country on November 14, the birthday of the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The monograph -- 14 Prime Ministers of Independent & Sovereign India -- comprises over 900 photographs, some of them rare, of all the prime ministers and analyses critically their contributions in the development of independent India.
Noted historian Bipin Chandra, former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Vice-Chancellor Yogendra Alagh, Mr Hashmukh Shah, Personal Secretary to the then Prime Minister Morarji Desai, Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal, former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha and Congress leader Abhishekh Manu Singhvi are among those who have contributed articles.
Prof Chandra has contributed a piece on Pandit Nehru while Prof Alagh and Mr Singhvi have written about Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, respectively.
Mr Sibal's article is on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh; Mr Yashwant Sinha's piece is on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee; and Mr Sunil Shastri has written on his father and late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Mr Shah, who was Personal Secretary to Morarji Desai, has given a detailed account of the late prime minister in his article.
Rashtriya Lok Dal President Ajit Singh has contributed an article on his father late Chaudhary Charan Singh. Journalist Ajay Jha has wielded his pen with a piece on Mr Chandra Shekhar, who died recently.
Compiled and edited by the Delhi-based journalist couple Neena Jha and Shivnath Jha, the monograph also carries several rare photographs of Mahatma Gandhi dating back 1906.
The couple had earlier compiled and published the first-ever autographed monograph on Shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan; 'India Calling' (in commemoration of India entering the 60th year of Independence) and 'Lalu Prasad : India's Miracle'.
