| Atrri joins opposition camp | | Set back to Congress in Municipal election Bishnah | | Govind Chouhan Bishnah | Oct 4 Bishnah Municipal election today took a new turn when a Congress councilor joined the opposition camp and filed papers for the post of President. According to reports, the election for the Bishnah Municipal President and Vice President was pending for the last two years. However on September 26 last the Deputy Commissioner Jammu, who is also the district election officer ordered holding of election for these two posts which remained vacant during the last nearly two years following resignations by the then President and Vice President. The sources said that as per the notification of the district election officer the last date for filing the nomination was fixed for October 4. To the surprise of many, the Congress Councilor from ward No 5 and ex-chairman, Ajay Attri instead of filing papers on the party’s ticket joined the opposition camp and filed papers for the post of President However Sanjeev Kumar filed his papers as Congress candidate for the post of President and Suraj Parkash for the post of Vice president. Reports said this is the second time when Sanjeev Kumar who had earlier won the Councilor seat on BJP ticket filed his papers for president post from the Congress group . Earlier also he had filed papers for Presidential post on Congress ticket but the election was stayed by a court order . Number 10 lose again chair, two year back when he jumped into the congress group and filed the form for president post the opposition group stayed the election. It may be recalled that Bishnah Municipal committee has total 13 members and one of the councilor with one seat vacant following the death of Anu Radha Pandey from Ward Number 3 .Of these the Congress has seven members and five others to the other parties and with the joining of Atri in opposition camp, the both groups of equally poised for the contest having six seats each. Sources said that one more Congress councilor is likely to shift his loyalty towards the opposition camp and if this happens the opposition camp candidate is sure to win the seat. |
